Charlize Montgomery Stuns Satin Strangler Fans

Actress Charlize Montgomery appeared at the recent If She Did It Broadway premiere in a subtle but sheek combination of a grey McQ asymmetrical sweater, jeans, and Mou tall suede boots. You can find her modest selection pretty easily, but good luck pulling it off with such style.



The sweater is available for $170 at ShopBop.com, and the boots for $510 at Polyvore.

Leopold's Fashion Statement

Ah, all hail Leopold "The Great" Leroux. The world reknowned director has never been one to disappoint the fashionistas, and the Satin Strangler's If She Did It Broadway premiere was no exception. Love it or hate it, Leopold's fashion statements leave everyone talking. On the left is the jacket from his red tuxedo, apparently from the Armani women's collection, and he topped it off with a regal purple cloak shown on the right.



Ruby Lane had the 1980's vintage Italian Gabardine jacket but it's sold out. Your best bet for the purple cloak is probably eBay, but good luck on sizes.

Satin Strangler Broadway Premiere

The big day is finally here, fashionistas.

The red carpet is rolled out on Broadway tonight for If She Did It. We are live on the scene for the most heralded Broadway opening in years.

The show is a who’s who of contemporary theater. Director Leopold “The Great” Leroux has been holding court with reporters outside. Leopold is in a fire-engine-red custom-designed Armani tuxedo accessorized with a purple velvet robe, quite fitting when declaring one’s self the reigning king of Broadway.

Leads Charlize Montgomery and Lars Peters entered together more than an hour ago. Montgomery, who plays Daphne Blain, aka the Satin Strangler, was wearing a gray McQ asymmetrical sweater and Mou tall suede boots. Peters, who plays attorney Henry Crow, looked comfortable in his brown leather jacket, faded jeans, and a t-shirt that read “Evil Personified” over Destiny Blande’s picture.

Horace Krouch, author of the book that started all of this, will not be at the theater tonight. He will instead be part of the production, with robotic cameras poised at his Park Avenue office, ready to stream live video to the stage screens as part of the multimedia extravaganza. We have criticized him more than once in the past for his overly conservative fashion selections. We’ll see what he’s wearing on the set tonight. Will he make a fashion rebound?

Camera crews from the production team intermix with hundreds of media reporters throughout the crowds lining the streets, filming live interviews simulcast onto the Times Square screens. When the show starts, their live feeds will reach the stage screens in the theater itself.

There have already been several sightings of stars here to watch the premiere. Christopher Walken arrived earlier wearing a black t-shirt and charcoal gray suit. Jeff Goldblum was a combination of cool and sophisticated in a black suit and white shirt sans tie, and Sigourney Weaver looked elegant in her black sequin wrap dress and white strappy sandals. And that’s only the beginning. There are many more to come.

Even the crowds lining the streets are getting into the fashion groove. Protestors are wearing Destiny Blande wigs and courtroom fashions. They carry signs that read "Killing is Wrong" and “Death for Destiny." Some hecklers crowded around Charlize Montgomery as she entered. Theater security guards in navy blue polyester uniforms whisked Montgomery into the theater and then beat several protestors with their own signs.

There have been numerous reported sightings of Destiny Blande here tonight, but each has proven to be a woman or man dressed up to look like Blande. Much of this is due to a local radio station’s "Go as Destiny" promotion, sponsored by the New York City Destiny Blande Look-alike Service. Seeing the actual Satin Strangler would indeed be a surprise, given her camera phobia, but you never know what you’ll see on a night like this.

Whether you are inside the theater, out here with us right now, in movie theaters around the country, or watching at on-line, this is the hottest ticket going. Enjoy the show, fashionistas. We will bring you more fashion from the event, both on and off the set.

Destiny's Yellow Tote

Destiny Blande's bright yellow Miu Miu calk leather tote accentuated her stylish navy outfit as the jury read the verdict. She may have been guilty or innocent, but we were all guilty of coveting that delightful accessory.

Destiny Steps Up Into Jimmy Choo

Accused Satin Strangler Destiny Blande was in stride with her brand new Jimmy Choo navy boots on the day of the verdict.



These boots used to be available at Montana Rader, but they're long gone.

Verdict Attire

O.J. Simpson’s tan Armani suit, white shirt, and gold tie were seen by millions on his famous acquittal day. Years later they were part of the evidence following the attempted Las Vegas heist that finally landed him in jail. If you missed them both times, or just want a closer look, you can now visit the Newseum in Washington, D.C., where they are a part of the permanent collection.

These might have been the most well known articles of clothing worn in the courtroom by a high profile defendant . . . until today.

All of that changed when Destiny Blande left the Rambling River, NJ, courtroom a free woman in a custom-made Cher Côulter navy dress, matching Jimmy Choo navy boots (donated by none other than Strangler Fashion), and a bright yellow Miu Miu calf leather tote. The stunning ensemble was perfectly punctuated by her chartreuse eyes. She’s come a long way since the arrest, baby, and even since the trial began. The fashion statement that started with a stutter ended with an exclamation point.

The Smithsonian declined O.J.’s outfit, but maybe they’ll go for Destiny Blande’s. Only time will tell.

In a related story, Cher Côulter denied rumors of their bid for exclusive sponsorship of Destiny Blande’s dresses and business suits for the next three years. Blande has not yet commented on this offer.

Satin Bow or Strangler M.O.?

When accused Satin Strangler Destiny Blande wore this style of satin bow in her hair in court, was it to make a accentuate a fashion statement or to take a tongue-in-cheek jab at the prosecution. The bow proves that a few dollars can go a long way.



You can probably take your pick on where to find this one. For all you Satin Strangler fashionistas out there, we still don't know where Destiny bought hers.

Destiny's Coach Knock-Off

In her first day in court, accused Satin Strangler Destiny Blande accentuated a predominantly black ensemble with a red bag. Our fashionista police have confirmed that the bag is a Coach knock-off. A knock-off is a knock-off, so here's what the real thing looks like.

First Day In Court

We’ve been waiting for months. We’ve been digging through old photos for clues. We’ve analyzed her psychological profile. Today’s media phenomenon finally revealed what we were dying to know – what Destiny Blande would wear at her trial.

Well, fashionistas, the verdict is in.

Mossimo led the ensemble, with a conservative black dress and Winni black round toe wedge shoes. Her purse was the only splash of color, but represented a somewhat surprising red Coach knock off. The absence of jewelry completed the low profile look, but a small black satin bow used to pull her hair back intertwined hints of quiet librarian and Satin Strangler.

These were a far cry from the results of our reader survey with all of you predicting her brand of shoes:

Courtroom Fashion Precedents

What will Destiny Blande, the alleged Satin Strangler, wear in the courtroom? Will she take cues from her famous predecessors, or will she make her own fashion statements? The judge, the jury, and (let’s face it) the rest of the world will be taking their cues from her fashion selections. Hopefully she’s been studying the fashion wonders and blunders of her infamous predecessors.

Sweetheart actress Winona Ryder set the bar in 2002 when accused of shop lifting over $5,000 of merchandise at Saks. She was unsuccessful at getting tags off a blue Marc Jacobs bag, according to CourtTV.com. Ryder appeared at Beverly Hills Municipal Court for her preliminary hearing sporting a yellow and navy combination of headband, dress, shoes and bag from Marc Jacobs. Her next several months of appearances were essentially unpaid advertisements for Marc Jacobs and Fendi. Marc Jacobs later rewarded Ryder for her shoplifting fashion sense by adding her to their advertising campaign. Go girl.

Martha Stewart faced charges in federal court showcasing a luxe coat and Hermes Birkin bag. The press criticized her for such a flagrant public display of wealth but later showed even less mercy when she appeared with an “everyday housewife” look.

Naomi Campbell spent much of 2006-2007 in New York City courtrooms after assaulting her housekeeper with a cell phone. Supermodel appearances in the Manhattan criminal court are few and far between, so paparazzi and fashionistas were on hand. Naomi kicked things off with a sexy black dress and black bracelets, and followed through with a charcoal Louis Vuitton jacket and black dress by Rachel Roy.

Campbell's week-long community service at the New York City Sanitation Department Depot featured numerous designer looks. 'What do they expect me to do? Walk in looking all drib and drab? I've never looked drib and drab in my life," she was quoted as saying in W Magazine’s "The Naomi Diaries." "I want to walk out of here with my head up. I want to go out in style, and fashion is what I've done for 21 years." The sanitation fashion included fedora, fur jackets and coats, colorful ruffled blouses, and even a silver gown grand exit in a Bentley.

In 2007 hotel heiress Paris Hilton appeared at the Metropolitan Courthouse in Los Angeles makeup-free and in baggy sweats. For her sentencing she chose a mix of gray and white separates and a headband – a lesser version of the Winona Ryder look. Later that year her friend Nicole Richie, daughter of famous singer Lionel Richie, appeared in court on DUI charges in Glendale. Nicole earned raves from fashionistas for her courtroom look, which included oversized black shades, sophisticated low chignon and an elegant Moschino black dress.

Destiny Blande is next. What will it be? That subdued girl next door look that she has portrayed to this point? Or some unique style not yet seen in the courtroom? There are so many opportunities to play off her auburn hair and chartreuse eyes.
